OUR STORY

Ceres Estates is a family owned specialty coffee operation from Santa Ana, El Salvador whose farms date back to 1895.

Since 2010, Carolina Mathies Hill (fourth generation grower), along with her four children, operate Ceres Estates as a continuation of the vision and legacy of her grandparents, James Hill (founder of JHill & Cia.) and Salvador Mathies, two of El Salvador’s coffee industry pioneers who began their work in the 19th century when they immigrated from Europe and revolutionized the industry forever.

Struck by the distinctive qualities of El Salvador’s coffee, they worked to promote its consumption  on a global scale. They quickly identified new markets around the globe and became two of El Salvador’s largest exporters of their time. Mathies and Hill built their coffee estates from the ground up by mastering the specifications of what international roasters desired for their blends. They fused industrial rigor with artistic craftsmanship.

Choosing the right region to grow their coffees was one of the most important  factors in establishing their trade; both chose Santa Ana, not only for its picturesque charm, but mainly for the volcanic and highly fertile soil found in this land which offers  optimal conditions for growing Arabica coffee.

Ceres Estates passionately embraces this legacy and responsibility, and remains committed to producing quality specialty coffee that is defined by over a century of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
